Hello Role Players
For those of you in the U.S. we hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! All of us here at Role took some time to be with family & friends to celebrate the holiday and take a short break. Despite an abridged month we were able to get many things done that we are excited to share with you. From our vision for an improved dashboard & onboarding experience, to the launch of our new weekly newsletter, and to the continued growth of our team, we pushed forward on the many initiatives we have for the rest of this year. Let’s dive in!
Welcome to your updated dashboard
Our dashboard was created at the beginning of Early Access over a year ago. As we prepare for some exciting releases coming next year, we knew we needed to give it some love. To start, we split up the information into separate categories of content. You’ll now find your dashboard has separate sections for your Tables, Sheets, Templates, and Assets. You can find your Tables under the “Play” page and your Sheets, Templates, and Assets within the “Create” page.
After separating out the different types of content you have on your dashboard, we set out to give each widget an updated and unique look. Our goal is to make it easier to skim your content and find the things you want when you need them, as well as give consistent styling to the various parts of the Role platform. Whether it’s your tables, sheets, or assets, art & images are a big part of the experience so we’ve made sure to better showcase them on your dashboard and in particular in your Asset Library. Lastly, sorting & filtering will be coming to help you find the content you want quickly! Some of these changes are already live and others will be rolling out over December.
The Weekly Encounter
We’ve officially launched our newsletter called The Weekly Encounter! Every Saturday morning you can expect to get a roll up of the week’s most interesting TTRPG news broken down into three categories: Play, Watch, and Community. If you are already a Role member you have been signed up automatically, everyone else can sign up here. You can find our first two issues on our blog here.
Our team continues to expand
This month we’ve welcomed two new members to the Role team! Joining us to work on the engineering side of things, please welcome Suzi and Angel:
A lifelong analog gamer, Suzi spent her youth playing card games in the schoolyard and never losing at Connect Four. This has grown into an obsession with strategy board games and tabletop gaming in general. She’ll play anything twice in case the first time was a fluke. Professionally, they’re a tech startup veteran, having spent over a decade working as a web designer, developer, and software engineer for small, scrappy companies with tiny, passionate teams. In their spare time, they knit and moonlight as convention staff for PAX, teaching board games and helping to manage the freeplay library.
Angel’s love for board games and role-playing was kindled in college when he founded the first Tabletop Gaming Club at his school. Since then he’s been doing web development in various fields, from financial technology to e-commerce. He was able to combine his love of tabletop games and software when he joined the Astral TableTop team in 2018. With three years of experience in the virtual tabletop world, he has helped solve problems and bring value and entertainment to hundreds of thousands of players and GMs, especially during 2020 and beyond. When he’s not tapping away at his mechanical keyboard for work, he’s usually tapping away at it for fun playing PC games. Away from the keyboard, he enjoys fantasy/sci-fi TV shows and traveling with his family.
Thank you always. You can play with us.
