It’s been a busy summer here at Role. From exciting launches like Exalted Funeral, to major feature work, team developments, and more – we’ve had a ton going on that we’re eager to share! We know we’ve been a bit quiet, but rest assured: we’re here, we’re building, and we’re more excited than ever to grow this community together.

A Better Place to Play

We’ve always envisioned Role as the most accessible, easy-to-use, creator-friendly platform in tabletop – and we’re proud to say we’ve made great strides in that mission! In the past year alone we’ve shipped a ton of great features to enhance everyone’s story gaming experience.

Just to highlight a few:

Mobile Web Support: Role is the first and only platform in TTRPGs to offer our full, uncompromised play experience on both desktop and mobile! Spread the joy of role playing online & in-person with tools that let you play on any device.

Custom Dice for Every Game: With the addition of colors and a custom die editor, Role now supports the dice you need for any game. Looking for that d33, or something impossible like a d777? Look no further than Role!

Native Audio Player: Give your games an epic soundtrack with Role’s native audio player! Upload and play endless soundscapes simultaneously to your entire party – making every session more immersive and fun.

Room Theming: Previously a feature only available to game creators, we launched room theming for everyone on Role! Express yourself and customize your game rooms to match the exact look and feel for your campaign.

Maps Get a Massive Boost

It’s been a busy summer here at Role, and we’re almost ready to reveal our latest project – Project M!

We’ll have more details in the coming weeks, but for those that have guessed it… Project “M” does indeed stand for MAPS. Stay tuned for a major announcement, partnership, and feature release that will change the way you play with maps on Role. We know you’ve been waiting, and we’re so excited to share our hard work with you all.

In addition to Project M, we’ll soon be revealing a renewed roadmap for the community to comment and vote on. Your feedback helps shape what Role will become!

Building the Ultimate Roleplay Community

Role has always been about more than just great play tools – we want to build a one-stop home for everyone in TTRPG to gather, create, play, and share great games with the world. In today’s fractured social media landscape, this vibrant community deserves a platform of our very own.

New Social Features: We’re working on early plans for user profiles, game discovery, social feeds, and more – all in service of building community on Role. We can’t do this without you! In the coming months we’ll be seeking your feedback on new social features we’re planning on our roadmap. Together, we’ll make Role the community hub we all know it can be.

Expanded Creation Tools: Role has the best drag-and-drop creation tools in the industry, but we’re not stopping there! This community has already published support for thousands of unique games. Now, we want to expand our creator tools for the benefit of all. That means performance improvements, new features (custom card decks, anyone?), and much more.

Become a Role Patron: Building software is hard, but you can help! Soon we’ll be launching a Patron Portal on Role, with options for our community to contribute directly to Role’s expanded development – and rewards for those that do.

Introducing: Patrick!

The Role team is growing, and our latest addition is Patrick Buechner – Role’s new COO! Patrick comes from a long career of building gaming communities and businesses — from The Sims to Mass Effect, and is a passionate TTRPG player. He’s also the author of The Soloist, a popular TTRPG newsletter. In Patrick’s own words:

“As a player, I was drawn to Role for its adaptability to different systems and its all-in-one features that made playing simple and accessible. Now I’m thrilled to help grow the platform to become a place that lets anyone create, publish, and play games across systems, genres, and playstyles. Role is the next chapter in making tabletop gaming more accessible and diverse, and I cant wait to build this community with all of you.”
