Hello Role Players
Over the past month our team has been planning and ramping up on our work for 2022. We’ve got many exciting releases and projects lined up that we cannot wait to start telling you about! In the meantime we are continuing to refine and improve the platform. This past month we have two things we want to highlight: the updated Asset Tray and Quick-Start Adventures.
Asset Tray Design Updates
We’ve heard the organization of assets, particularly at a table, can become unwieldy at times. With our most recent release we are taking some initial steps towards improving your experience with accessing the right game materials when you need them. You’ll now find that the Asset Tray and Asset Library Modal have had their design updated to match how you view your assets on your dashboard. This means you can now filter your assets by type and sort them alphabetically or reverse-alphabetically.
With these updates to the asset tray we also squashed some bugs. We fixed issues with the asset tray sometimes disappearing and we fixed when an asset’s pop-up menu would sometimes get cut off. You can read the full changelog here.
Quick-Start Adventures
We quietly launched a new feature at the tail end of last year called Quick-Start Adventures. You will now find a new section on your dashboard where you can see the logo for four prominent games from different systems and genres: Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, Mörk Borg, and Masks.
These adventures are starter tables that come with everything you need to get started playing with minimum to no prep! When you create a new table using one of these adventures you get:
- Pre-Made Characters: Each adventure comes with a selection of curated pre-made character sheets. These characters are ready to go for any players at your table. Like all sheets on Role, they are fully editable to allow additional customization.
- Game Specific Templates: By default when creating a new sheet at a quick-start table you will only see the relevant templates that go with the game you are playing. Those of you that still want to use your own templates will be able to add them under the new “Custom” tab in the sheet selector on the left of your screen.
- Starter Assets: Each adventure comes with a set of starter assets including rule PDFs, campaigns, maps, and more. Feel free to use these assets to get started playing right away, or upload your own custom assets to further assist your sessions.
What’s Next?
Over the next couple of months we’ll be continuing to release new features, quality of life improvements, and bug fixes. On top of that we’ll soon be announcing more info on a couple of shows we are producing in partnership with creators from the community, the launch of CHROME, and details on the remainder of the Kickstarter Supplements you all helped fund!
2022 is going to be an epic year! As always…
