Hello Role Players
As we approach the end of December we have just deployed our final release of the year! We’ve spent the the last few weeks polishing off parts of our updated onboarding & dashboard experience, squashing bugs, and as of today showcasing our latest feature: Quick-Start Adventures. It’s been quite the year of growth for Role and we are thrilled to show off the beginnings of what will become a pivotal part of the platform next year. Let’s dive in!
Quick-Start Adventures
One of our goals with Role has always been to lower the time from intent to play to actually playing. That’s why Quick-Start Adventures are so exciting and important to us! You will now find these in a new section of your Dashboard under the Play page. These adventures are starter tables that come with everything you need to get started playing on Role – with minimum to no prep! When you create a new table using one of these adventures you get:
- Pre-Made Characters: Each adventure comes with a selection of curated pre-made character sheets. These characters are ready to go for any players at your table. Like all sheets on Role, they are fully editable to allow additional customization.
- Game Specific Templates: By default when creating a new sheet at a quick-start table you will only see the relevant templates that go with the game you are playing. Those of you that still want to use your own templates will be able to add them under the new “Custom” tab in the sheet selector on the left of your screen.
- Starter Assets: Each adventure comes with a set of starter assets including rule PDFs, campaigns, maps, and more. Feel free to use these assets to get started playing right away, or upload your own custom assets to further assist your sessions.
Starting today, we have four Quick-Start Adventures ready to go: Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, Mörk Borg, and Masks. Overtime the list of games supported will grow, as well as the content that comes with a quick-start adventure. This is just the beginning!
Changes From the Month
Here is a breakdown of everything we updated and released this past month:
- Quick-Start Adventures: Curated tables that come with everything you need to get started playing right away.
- Redesigned sheets panel at a table. To support quick start adventures we’ve updated our sheets panel to allow for two tabs: Tables and Custom. Tables has everything you need that is relevant to a quick-start game. Custom is the same functionality as you are used to: create a sheet from one of your templates or load an existing sheet you already have in your account.
- Finished the redesign of your Dashboard, breaking out your content into their own pages: Tables, Sheets, Templates, and Assets.
- The new dashboard comes with unique designs for each type of content on Role, so that it is easier to distinguish them.
- Assets on your dashboard can be filtered by type to more easily find things.
- We now show you the last time one of your tables had a session played at it.
- We’ve redesigned our login and sign up screens for a smoother onboarding experience.
- We added foundational support a new asset type called Link. This allows for linking to content off of Role (currently only available in Quick-Start Adventures).
